When families endure challenges, illness or disability, inevitably their finances are impacted. Whether a working parent suddenly falls ill and is unable to continue working, a working parent is compelled to reduce his or her working hours in order to accompany a spouse or child to medical treatments, or a family is suddenly encumbered with the hefty costs of transportation to the hospital and extra household help, having a sick or disabled family member is always financially debilitating. Many are unaware of it, but families with a parent or child suffering disability or illness are often eligible to exercise their medical rights and obtain government grants from the National Insurance Institute.
Bureaucratic red tape and the runaround from one government office to the next can make exercising rights complicated and wearying. This leads many to despair along the way before they exploit their full rights and receive the help they need and deserve. Frequent amendments to the law and list of those eligible for government grants can further confuse patients and their families and transform the attempt to exercise one’s rights into a nightmare.
The Information Hotline for National Insurance Rights is a pioneering project of Connected. Rabbi Meir Quinn observed the public’s severe lack of awareness concerning the rights afforded to families with an ill or disabled parent or child. He noted that many families struggled to navigate the system to utilize their medical rights, a difficulty frequently exacerbated by their lack of available time and their apprehension about disclosing confidential medical information.
Determined to enable families to receive the funding that they deserve and exercise their maximal rights swiftly and efficiently, while sparing them unnecessary hassle and headache, Rabbi Quinn set about collecting and sorting through reams of National Insurance data, and presenting the information and options that he collected to the public simply and clearly on Connected’s Information Hotline. The Hotline is manned by professionals who work discreetly with families, helping them exploit their full rights via National Insurance. Callers are not required to identify themselves.
